Tag renewal available through the app

Oklahoma motorists now can renew their vehicle registrations in the palm of their hands.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission has partnered with Oklahoma Interactive to allow Oklahomans to use the secure Gov2Go mobile app to renew their car, truck, boat, motorcycle or other vehicle registrations without having to leave their home.

Users simply create an account on Gov2Go and enter their personal and vehicle information. Gov2Go then creates a timeline with important dates and sends notifications to remind users when it's time to renew a tag or anything else of importance, said Bret Warren, president and general manager of Oklahoma Interactive.

“The big piece is really that push notification right on your mobile device, allowing you to renew 24/7, 365 (days a year),” Warren said. “From the lake if you need to, or anywhere that you have a data connection.”

Renewing your registration on the app will cost an extra $2 fee, which Warren said is worth the cost because of the

time and effort it will save users.

Using the app also will make the process easier for the Oklahoma Tax Commission, Warren said. All the commission will have to do is send users the renewal notification and then mail the renewed decal once the payment has been processed.

The Tax Commission works to allow as much mobile access as possible to Oklahomans, spokeswoman Paula Ross said in an email.

“We are always looking for ways to provide taxpayers with time-saving and user-friendly options and Gov2Go is another addition to our services,” Ross said.

Ross said it is too early to anticipate the change in the commission's workflow, but the commission's goal will always be efficiency and more online access.

Along with vehicle registrations, Gov2Go also provides users with AMBER alerts and election notifications and information.

The app is basically your personal assistant when it comes to anything government-related, Warren said.

The platform is in its “infancy” and state residents are encouraged to be on the lookout in the coming months for new services to be announced online, he added.

“We have a hopefully very large pipeline of upcoming services that we will continue to expand upon so that any and almost all interactions with the Oklahoma State government can take place on Gov2Go,” Warren said.

Over 1.5 million Americans already use Gov2Go, according Oklahoma Interactive.

Gov2Go is available for download on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for iOS and Android devices.
