McKinnon Family Properties offers cash option to sellers

What options does a 95-year-old widow with no local family have when it comes time to sell her home and move after 40 years? List it with a Realtor and hope for a buyer? That's one option, but that means getting the house ready for sale with the associated repairs and decluttering.

Another option offered by a local, family-owned and operated real estate investment company is to sell the property quickly for cash, without the hassle of fixing it up and listing it.

“Our goal is to solve problems people have with properties they own,” said Brandon Co on, owner of McKinnon Family Properties. “Our most recent home purchase was from an elderly widow, who had been in her home since the '70s and her family was largely out of state. We were able to help her avoid having to fix up her home, go through the hassles of listing it and eliminated the burden of packing. She was able to take only what she wanted and we offered to donate the rest. It was a huge relief for her and her family.”

This is just one of the scenarios McKinnon Family Properties highlights when talking about what situations make properties a good fit for purchase by their company. Other typical scenarios might include:

• Avoiding foreclosure.

• Cashing out on rental/ investment properties.

• Facing divorce.

• Moving/downsizing.

• Upside down in mortgage.

• Owing liens.

• Inherited property.

• Fire damaged.

• Bad rental tenants.

• Haven't sold with a listing agent.

“It doesn' t matter whether you live in it, you're renting it out, it's vacant, or not even habitable,” Coon said. “We'll know very quickly if we can help you, and unlike selling through an agent, you don't have to wait to see if the buyer can get financing.

“If I can't help someone, I am happy to point them toward Realtors who can, reliable contractors who can help them fix up their property or advise them on what repairs they need to get a property ready for listing,” he said.

Property managers Diane and Robert Hutchinson of Oklahoma City have high praise for their business dealings with McKinnon Family Properties.

“We have managed our own properties since 1983 and a local builder-developer's properties for the last 10-plus years,” Robert Hutchinson said. “We sold a duplex to Brandon last year. It was a pleasant experience. In fact, we referred him to a friend of ours who also sold to him several properties and had a good experience.”

Retired Army veteran Dennis Cotner, who has multiple rental properties, echoed that assessment, “He made what I thought was a fair offer.” Cotner said. “Very easy to work with. The process went real smooth, and it was a good experience.”

Local and trust worthy are two attributes t hat McKinnon Family Properties believes sets them apart from other cash buyers in the Oklahoma City area.

Brandon Coon's family has been in Oklahoma since statehood. He was the third generation to work at his family's business until beginning his real estate career. His grandfather, Ed Coon, served as city engineer to The Village, where his father still serves, while running the family's civil engineering and land surveying firm. In fact, he wanted to honor his grandfather, who was a decorated World War II vet, when he started his real estate firm. So he chose the name McKinnon, which is a family name from his grandfather's side. Coon has a real estate license.

“My professional background is in residential and commercial real estate development, entitlements, zoning, construction plan reviews, utility relocation and public improvement projects,” he said. “I love real estate because it is a natural extension of what I've grown up doing and it allows me to help people from all walks of life.”

The company believes in giving back to Oklahoma City, as well. In June, they announced a community giving partnership with Oklahoma City-based Heart & Home Makeovers, committing to donate a percentage of each sale to the charity to fund house renovations for Oklahoma City families in need.

“They not only serve their clients well,” said Deidra Livingood, Director, Heart & Home Makeovers. “They care about the community and go out of their way to make a difference.”

“We love what Deidra and her team does at Heart & Home,” Brandon Coon said. “Their mission is to restore a healing environment in a house where a family has experienced loss or trauma. This complements our mission to help Oklahoma families with their property needs.”
