OSU, Arkansas extend future series into 2030s

STILLWATER — An Oklahoma State football fan born next month can celebrate becoming a teenager with a trip to Boone Pickens Stadium to watch the Cowboys host Arkansas.

A year ago, OSU and Arkansas announced the revival of their series with a home-and-home deal in 2024 and 2027. On Tuesday, the schools added two more future games, extending the series into the 2030s.

The Pokes and Hogs will meet in Stillwater on Sept. 18, 2032, and in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Sept. 17, 2033.

That's not the only schedule juggling involving OSU and Arkansas, however.

In the equivalent of an NBA-style four-team trade, OSU and Arkansas swapped opponents in 2021-22.

Rice University announced last week that its season opener for 2021 — initially scheduled to be OSU — will now be against Arkansas.

As a result, OSU will open that season hosting Missouri State, which was to be Arkansas' original opening opponent.

OSU and Missouri State were previously set to meet in 2022, a date that has now been filled on the Cowboys' schedule by Arkansas-Pine Bluff, an OSU official confirmed to The Oklahoman Tuesday.

As confusing as it can be to follow, here's the basic detail: OSU lost Rice and added Arkansas-Pine Bluff,

an FCS team, to its upcoming schedules.

The OSU-Arkansas series has been dead since 1980, after a 19-year run of consecutive meetings.

OSU and Arkansas met 46 times between 1912 and 1980, with Arkansas leading the series 30-15-1. Of the 46 meetings, 32 were played at Arkansas, nine in Stillwater and six at neutral sites.

Both were members of the Southwest Conference from 1915-24, before OSU moved on to the Missouri Valley Conference.

Afterward, the Cowboys and Razorbacks continued to play regularly, including every season from 1962-80.

OSU is 4- 4- 1 in home games and 3-2 at neutral sites, including a 19-0 victory at Oklahoma City's legendary Taft Stadium in 1944.
