Kendall named West Virginia's starting quarterback

Austin Kendall's decision to transfer from Oklahoma to West Virginia proved to be the right one. Kendall was named West Virginia's starting quarterback on Tuesday.

“We tracked everything from spring practice to fall camp ,” coach Neal Brown told reporters Tuesday. “Completion percentage, number of turnovers, scoring drives from spring practice to fall camp. And it was clear after Friday's scrimmage.”

Kendall announced his decision to transfer to West Virginia on Jan. 16, the same day Jalen Hurts announced his transfer from Alabama to Oklahoma.

Kendall played in eight career games for the Sooners. He completed 28 of 39 passes for three touch downs. Oklahoma will face West Virginia on Oct. 19.

Auburn turning to true freshman at quarterback

Freshman Bo Nix will be Auburn's starting quarterback in the season opener.

Auburn announced coach Gus Malzahn's decision on Twitter Tuesday, officially ending a battle with redshirt freshman Joey Gate wood. Nix will lead the 16th-ranked Tigers against Oregon on Aug. 31 in Arlington, Texas.

He was a five-star prospect rated the nation' s top dual threat quarterback in the 247 Sports composite rankings. Nix's father, Patrick, played quarterback for the Tigers from 1992-95.

The 6-foot-2, 207-pound BoNix enrolled in January after leading his father' s Pinson Valley High School team to consecutive Class 6A state titles. He set Alabama state career records with 12,000- plus yards of total offense and 161 touchdowns accounted for, including 127 passing and 34 rushing.
