Tourney aids veterans
On one of the hottest days of the year, the 23rd annual D-DENT veterans' golf tournament Aug. 12 raised $30,000 to help low-income, uninsured veterans receive free dental care.
Many volunteers helped make the tournament success, along with celebrity golfers Uwe von Schamann and Shawn O'Grady. Schamann was a member of the 1975 OU national championship team and played for the Miami Dolphins. O'Grady is the former World Boxing Association lightweight champion of the world. Event benefits food bank
Dolese's third annual Rock the Block on Aug. 17 brought in 460 pounds of canned food donations for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, equaling 383 meals for hungry families. The event featured equipment and trucks for children to explore from the Oklahoma City Fire Department, the Oklahoma City Police Department Bomb Squad, the National Guard, Warren Cat, Kirby Smith, Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. and more.
