Scouting McNeese State 2019 record: 1-0, 0-0 Southland Conference
Best player: McNeese State defensive end Chris Livings was tough on opposing quarterbacks last season as he gathered eight sacks in just eight games played. He also had 10.5 tackles for loss. His biggest performance came against Abilene Christian with a school-record five sacks. He was named to the Southland Conference Preseason AllConference first team alongside defensive back Colby Burton. Case for McNeese State: An FCS school upsetting an FBS team is not unheard of, but it's very unlikely. McNeese State at least has a new coach with experience in the Big 12. Former Texas offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Sterlin Gilbert was hired in December after spending the last two seasons as South Florida's offensive coordinator. Gilbert was also Tulsa's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2015. Now, he's got a new starter in quarterback Cody Orgeron, the son of LSU coach Ed Orgeron. Cody completed 15 of 22 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 34-28 win over Southern.
Case for Oklahoma State: Central Arkansas upset Western Kentucky on Thursday, marking the first FCS-over-FBS upset of the season. But Oklahoma State is not Western Kentucky. OSU's high-powered offense behind new starting quarterback Spencer Sanders breezed in the opening win at Oregon State with running back Chuba Hubbard and receiver Tylan Wallace having huge nights. This will be an opportunity for OSU to show some depth, including likely a look at quarterback Dru Brown.
