Linebacker Bundage suffers setback,

- By Jacob Unruh Staff writer junruh@oklahoman.com

Oklahoma State star linebacker Calvin Bu nd age could miss another week with hi s lingering back injury.

OSU coach Mike Gundy said Monday that Bundage had a setback about 10 days ago. Bundage di d not travel to Oregon State last week, and his status is in doubt for Saturday's home opener against McNeese State.

“It just depends on how he's feeling,” Gundy said .“He's got a back issue, and they're hard to determine. Sometimes, guys come back quick and sometimes they don't. It doesn't require surgery. It' s in pain-tolerance mode, and those things are hard to measure.”

If Bundage is held out, junior Malcolm Rodriguez will again handle duties in Bu nd age' s spot. Rodriguez, who played safety last season, started at linebacker last week and recorded nine tackles and a quarterback hurry.

OSU' s defense is expected to get a boost with defensive tackle Israel Ant wine likely to make his debut. The former Mill wood star, who started 11 games at Colorado last season, also did not travel to Corvallis, Oregon.

“We'll know in a couple of days ,” Gundy said. “He's practicing with the 1s and 2s. We have him sitting on `G' waiting on `O.'”

Ant wine is listed as the backup to Cameron Murray.

Gundy: OL highest grade he's seen

Gun dy understands OSU has played one game, but he was still encouraged by the Cowboys' offensive line in Friday's 52-36 win at Oregon State.

“Everybody has to be careful about being on the Kool-Aid early,” Gundy said .“but it was the highest grade that we've ever had as an offensive line group since I've been the head coach.

“Guys are playing hard, and they're down field. I'm guessing that Coach (Charlie) Dickey is demanding they play that way.”

OSU rushed for 352 yards, with running back Chuba Hubbard accounting for 221.

A new wrinkle in elevator incident

Details continue to emerge about Oklahoma State's elevator mishap to begin Friday's third quarter at Oregon State.

Cowboys coaches were stuck, delaying the game after Oklahoma State scored a touch down to open the half. Receivers coach Kasey Dunn called plays from the sideline.

Now, Gundy said he's learned two Oregon State assistants were also on the elevator. They likely put the group over the weight limit.

Naturally, Gun dy had some fun with it on Sunday. He told Cowboy backs coach Jason McEndoo since he was bigger than those coaches that he should have picked them up and removed them from the elevator.

“That was pretty good conversation Sunday morning t hat we had,” Gundy said. “First time I've seen that happen in my 30 years.”

Presley puts on a show

OS U wide receiver commit Brennan Presley put on a dazzling display in Bixby's season-opening 77-44 win over Mansfield ( Texas) Timberview.

Presley caught 17 passes for 237 yards and six touchdowns, equaling nearly half of his 2018 TD total of 16. The 5-foot-8, 155-pound senior is No. 13 on The Oklahoman's Super 30 and was on the All-State team last season.
