The Selmon Brothers — Lee Roy, Lucious, and Dewey — will get a statue in Norman alongside Oklahoma's Heisman winners

The University of Oklahoma is seeking proposals to have at least three statues made for display outside of Gaylord Family—Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Two were expected — the planned Heisman Park statues of Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

But for the first time, a statue of a non-Heisman winning player is planned to be added to the collection as the school is also seeking bids for one honoring the Selmon brothers — Lee Roy, Lucious and Dewey.

The request for proposal was posted by the university earlier this week.

The statues for May field, the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner, and Murray, who won the award last season, are the first two priorities in the proposal.

The school has a target finish date of spring 2020 for the May field statue, spring 2021 for the Murray statue and fall of 2021 for the statue of the Selmons.

That doesn't necessarily mean that the statues would be unveiled immediately, as evidenced by the Bob Stoops statue, which was spotted being transported in Norman in November 2015,

two-and-a-half years before the statue was officially dedicated.

The cause of having a statue of the Selmon brothers has been one legendary Sooners coach Barry Switzer has been passionate about for years.

Switzer advocated for the statue in 2011 when Lucio us was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.

"The Selmon brothers are unique," Switzer said then. "Never before and never since have three brothers ever started and played side by side in the history of major-college football.

"Hopefully, someday, a heroic statue of the Selmon brothers in uniform will be on our campus at the University of Oklahoma."

Now it appears Switzer will get his wish.

No specific pose is mentioned for the statue of t he Sel mons, other than having the three together.

The statue would be similar in size to the Heisman statues, though the base is planned to be much taller.

The May field and Murray statues will feature action poses picked by the players themselves.

Proposals for the statues are due by Oct. 9.

The OU Daily first reported the details of the solicitation for proposals.
