PIEDMONT — Noble coach Greg George knew Hunter Largent was good enough to play on varsity as a freshman.

There was j ust one thing George had to do before giving him a spot on the team.

“I had to call his mom and say, ` Hey, I know your son is a freshman, but he's good enough to play for me. Is it OK?'” George said.

Largent's mother approved, and her son has been one of Noble's best players throughout his high school career.

Largent, a senior lineman, plays on offense and defense f or t he Bears, who l os t a t Piedmont 28-6 Friday night. He was voted captain the past two years.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 320 pounds, Largent is a physical player. He's t enacious and not just on the football field. He t ook t hi r d pl ace at t he 2019 Class 5A state wrestling tournament.

Largent i s s er i ous about football, but he has one of the team's most colorful personalities, too.

“I'm always joking around,” he said.

George has formed a special bond with Largent. The two often joke with each other during practices.

“He's a kid that you can joke around with, and he's going to joke around right back with you,” George said. “He dishes it out with me as much as I can dish it out against him.”

Largent is one of the hardest workers for Noble. He's c o a c h a b l e , a n d h e ' l l d o anything to help his team.

“He'll do exactly what you tell him to do,” George said. “He can play all five positions on the offensive line, play anywhere on the defensive line.”

Largent always dreamed of playing college football. His desire to play at the next level is what motivates him.

“It's always been my dream since I was a l i ttle kid,” he said. “I figured I got to give it my best shot while I still have the time to follow my dreams. That's where the drive comes from.”

Largent received an offer from Central Oklahoma, and he is waiting to decide where he will attend. Right now, he is focused on helping Noble reach the playoffs. The Bears finished 4-6 and missed the postseason in 2018, but they are off to a 2-1 start this year.
