ASTEC breaks ground on elementary school

ASTEC Charter Schools has taken the first stab in the dirt toward a $13 million elementary school facility.

ASTEC — Advanced, Science and Techonolog­y Education Charter— hosted a groundbrea­king ceremony Friday fora new elementary school at 2600 Gen. Pershing in Okahoma City. Founded in 2000, A STEC was Oklahoma's first startup charter school, and it now serves more than 1,000 middle and high school students.

The elementary school will educate children from pre-K through fifth grade.

The school's foundation and leadership have raised more than $4 million in private and foundation dollars to buy the land for the school site and make a down payment on the building.

ASTEC celebrated i ts ground breaking with Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, Oklahoma County Commission­er Carrie Blumert, Inasmuch Foundation President and CEO Bob Ross, and Brent Bushey, executive director of the Oklahoma Public School Resource Center.
