Ronald Dean Milton Jr. was depressed following his mother's death. So, too, were his father and sister.

So the ex-Marine decided to kill them and then take his own life.

“I wanted to kill myself,” Milton stated in a court exhibit. “I sensed from my father and sister that they didn't want to live either.”

“I got Brandy out to the garage and shot her there from behind. I then walked into my father's bedroom and shot him from behind as he was watching TV.”

Milton, 36, was sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty this week to two counts of first-degree murder. He avoided trial as part of an arrangement with prosecutors.

Ronald Dean Milton Milton Sr., 63,

and Brandy Maria Milton, 39, were found April 14, 2018, in a northwest Oklahoma City home t hey shared with the defendant. Both victims had gunshot wounds to their heads, according to police.

“Neither one of them saw it coming ,” the defendant stated in the exhibit. “I tried to commit suicide and failed.”

In his plea paperwork, Milton wrote the 2016 death of Faye Milton hit his family hard. He stated he dealt with his depression “poorly” by turning to prescription medication and alcohol for relief.

“I must say that, whatever I thought, my dad and Brandy didn't deserve to die,” he stated.

Milton fled to New Mexico, where he eventually surrendered to authorities.

Investigators determined the weapon used in the shooting was likely a .38 caliber revolver. When searching the defendant's bedroom, an empty box for a .38 caliber revolver was found, police reported.

Investigators also learned Milton had been dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Marines f or bad c onduct, police reported in a court affidavit. Family members said he suffered from depression, according to the affidavit.

“I was absolutely wrong to do what I did,” Milton wrote. “My sister and father deserve to be alive today. I wish they were here. I'm sorry.”
