Edmond Santa Fe beats defending champ Broken Arrow on late field goal

- Cameron Jourdan, Staff writer

Caleb Bielamowicz worked on his alignment for kicks from the hash es in practice this week.

For Edmond Santa Fe' s senior kick er, it paid off. Bie lam owicz drilled an 18-yard field goal with 2 seconds left to give the Wolves a 23-21 upset victory at Class 6A- I No. 2- ranked Broken Arrow. Santa Fe star sophomore receiver Talyn Shettron caught a 33-yard pass up the right sideline to get to the 1 before the winning field goal. Shettron also caught a pass on fourth-and-5 earlier to keep the drive alive.

"That's the biggest pressure kick he's ever had at Santa Fe," coach Kyle White said of Bielamowicz's winning field goal. "One of our coaches just happened to work with him on his angles from the hash, and it paid off."

Broken Arrow running back Sanchez Banks scored a touchdown with 1:27 left to help give the Tigers an advantage. When Santa Fe (5-2, 3-1 District 6A-I1) got the ball back, the goal was just to get into field goal range.

Shettron finished with eight receptions for 159 yards. He holds offers from Arkansas and Oklahoma State, but he's bound to have plenty more as his career progresses.

White said after an early district loss against Yukon, Santa Fe refocused its approach and zoned in on focusing internally. He preached to his players this week about getting the chance to go to the house of the defending state champions to play. They took the message well and knocked off the Tigers.

Billy Brown earns 200th win in Shawnee's upset against Muskogee

Battling injuries, sickness and other problems, everything came together for Shawnee's football team Thursday night.

The Wolves' star sophomore, Jaylon Orange, scored on a 2- yard keeper with 11 seconds left to catapult Shawnee to a 32-29 upset of Class 6 A-II No .4- ranked Muskogee. The win was Shawnee's first ever against the Roughers and gave coach Billy Brown his 200th career victory.

"It was really special ," Brown said. "All of my immediate family was there for the first time this season, so it was a perfect night."

The back-and-forth contest helped Shawnee (2-5, 1-3 District 6A- II- 2) to its first district win and Muskogee its first loss. Brown said it shows the potential his young team has, especially after close losses against Ponca City and Sand Springs.

The stats from Thursday's game are crazy, too. GrahamDustin's quarterback Derrick Jennings accounted for eight touch downs, completing 13-of-15 passes for 234 yards and seven TDs. He added six carries for 71 yards. Austin Fife had nine touchdowns, three rushing, three receiving and three on kickoff returns.
