Cowboys matching starting offense, defense more

- Jacob Unruh and Scott Wright, Staff writers

STILLWATER — More than usual this week, when Oklahoma State cornerback Rodarius Williams lines up in the team practice period, he' s been seeing Tyl an Wallace or Jordan McCray

across from him.

Perhaps in an effort to bring back the Cowboys' edge—that whole“iron sharpens iron” thing — OSU coaches have put the starting offense and defense together more than usual.

“We got a lot of reps with the original offense instead of more reps with the scout team,” Williams said. “It's giving us back that edge of going full-speed all the time, and I feel like we're prepared.

“We' re getting that groove back of playing fast and finishing.”

By this time of the season, practices are getting shorter and time spent in 11- on- 11 practice periods is generally against the scout teams.

“The live reps, it gives us a sense of the game, the speed of the game,” linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga

said. “The scouts do a great job and I appreciate everything they do, but they're not gonna do the same as our first offense. They're much faster and much more efficient, and it gives a better feel for the game for us.

“You' ve got to take advantage of those things, because once Saturday hits, you're flying full speed.”

Green locks down Mims

Defensive back A.J. Green

got his own payback in a rematch with Baylor star receiver Devin Mims.

Mi ms was held to one catch for 16 yards in the Bears '45-27 win at Oklahoma State on Saturday, and that was largely due to Green' s coverage.

He primarily defended Mims.

This came a year after Mi ms caught the game-winning touchdown against Green.

It was Mims' lone catch that day, but it was all that mattered.
