Game at `Field of Dreams' movie site is called off for 2020

Major League Baseball' s rollout to Iowa is officially on hold.

The Aug. 13 game between the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals at the Field of Dreams movie site is off, a person with direct knowledge of the game's planning process confirmed to The Des Moines Register on Monday afternoon.

MLB decided to err on the side of caution during the COVID-19 crises and not ask clubs to take additional steps outside of the normal routines at this time, including coming to Iowa for the game.

But MLB is still planning on making a trip to Dyersville, Iowa, with a game in the cards for 2021, although without a specific date as of yet. Given the franchise's ties to the 1989 theatrical film starring Kevin Costner, the White Sox are still expected to be part of the game. But the opponent for next season is still up in the air.

Brewers coach suffers heart attack during team workout

Milwaukee Brewers bench coach Pat Murphy suffered a heart attack during a Saturday team workout at Miller Park, but team officials said he was resting comfortably and should be out of the hospital later this week.

Brewers general manager David Stearns said the 61-year-old Murphy received as tent and is expected to get released from Froedtert Hospital "in a couple of days." Stearns said it was too early to estimate when Murphy might be back in uniform.

Stearns said Murphy started experiencing symptoms while on the Miller Park field and reported them to the team's medical staff, which immediately realized the gravity of the situation and called an ambulance. Stearns says the ambulance arrived "in a matter of minutes" and transported Murphy to Froedtert Hospital, which had a team of cardiologists waiting for him.

The Brewers are scheduled to play their home opener Monday against the Chicago White Sox.

Top prospect Adell scheduled to join Angels

Top prospect Jo Adell is joining the Los Angeles Angels, a person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because the Angels hadn't yet announced the transaction.

Adell could make his major league debut in Seattle on Tuesday night when the struggling Angels (3-7) open a six-game road trip.

Adell is a 21-year-old outfielder widely considered to be among the best prospects in baseball. He is ranked No. 6 overall by MLB Pipeline, while other talent evaluators rank him even higher.

Betts pulled out early in two straight games

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts has been pulled early from two straight games. His legs were sore after playing on the artificial turf Arizona, and he injured a finger on his left hand Sunday. ...

Also, Cleveland Indians manager Terry Franco na was not with the club for its series opener Monday night in Cincinnati as he deals with a gastrointestinal issue.

Francona was scheduled for an exam at the Cleveland Clinic to address his medical condition. He was forced to return to the team's hotel on Sunday in Minneapolis as the Indians completed their first road trip of 2020 and a four-game series with the Twins.

First-base coach Sandy Al omar filled in for the 61-year-old Francona.

The Indians said Franco na' s ailment is not COVID-19-related.
