Picklo twins sign with Bedlam rivals
MUSTANG — Tate Picklo wasn't always a die-hard OU fan.
In fact, the Mustang star wrestler was as taunchs upporter of Oklahoma State before committing to the Sooners last year.
“I used to have a poster of ( OSU coach) John Smith in my room,” he said. “I ended up taking that down. I don't have that anymore.”
Picklo got rid of his Cowboy paraphernalia, but his twin sister, Trinity, has plenty of OSU gear in her room.
And on Wednesday at Mustang High School, t he Picklo twins made their allegiances official.
Tate signed his National
Letter of Intent with OU and will join his older brother, Cam, in the wrestling program next year. Trinity signed with OSU soccer.
The twins announced their commitments last fall and had been waiting for this.
They shared a special moment Wednesday.
“Something that I've been looking forward to for a while,” Tate said.
Tate has high hopes for his college career and continues to prove he is one of the best high school wrestlers in the nation.
He won the Class 6A state championship at 182 pounds as a junior and finished with an undefeated record for the second straight season. As a sophomore, he claimed the 160-pound title.
Trinity has her share of athletic accomplishments, too.
She's a two-sport star for the Broncos. Along with being one of the state's top defenders in soccer, she competes in the hurdles in track and field and is a two-time state qualifier.
After taking a visit to Still water and meeting the OSU soccer coaches and players, Trinity realized she wanted to become a Cowgirl.
“As soon as I walked in there, I kind of knew that it was going to be my home ,” she said .“The coaches were amazing. The teammates were awesome. I felt included, and I felt part of the team.”
The t wins have been tight throughout their lives, and sports bring the family together.
The father, Brian, is Mustang' s wrestling coach. A two-time All-American at Michigan State, he was an assistant
for OU at one point.
The twins started playing sports at a young age and are proud of how far they've come.
They' re focused on finishing strong in high
school before beginning the next chapter of their careers.
“It's super cool being able to grow up so close,” Tate said. “We've both had these aspirations.”
