Mail carrier surprises mom fighting COVID-19
A U.S. Postal Service worker surprised a Houston mother with a care package full of food after she tested positive for COVID-19.
On Dec. 3, Lisette LeJeune, 37, warned her mail carrier that she was quarantining and offered to put a bucket outside their house for the mail so she wouldn’t have to touch the mail box and risk infection. She was coughing and having trouble breathing and days later she learned she had COVID-19. Her sons, Adonnis, 14, and Matteo, 3, tested positive, too.
“As a single mom, I was kind of scared,” she said. “The first week was just hard because I was really sick.”
LeJeune, a make up artist, has been out of work since early December and family members brought her cooked meals, groceries and medications as she cared for herself and her sons. On Tuesday, she found a care package filled with soup, orange juice, cookies and gummies on her doorstep.

She found a get well card inside from her mail carrier, Mary. She said she was surprised because outside of a few greetings and waves, they didn’t have much of a relationship.
She checked her doorbell camera to be sure and found footage of Mary delivering the gift, which she shared on Facebook.
She wrote that the gesture “made my entire year.” “Her bringing that to us was really sweet,” she said. “It was a little emotional to know that a stranger can be that kind to want to bring us something.”
LeJeune said her 14-year-old was equally surprised by the gift and her 3-year-old was particularly excited about the gummies.
She said she hasn’t seen Mary since receiving the gift because of her schedule, but she hopes to buy her a Christmas gift as a thank you.
Her family is now out of quarantine, have all tested negative for COVID-19 and are in good health.
The mail carrier, Mary, said she left the gift because she appreciated LeJeune’s concern for her wellbeing in a statement through a USPS spokesperson.
“I was just making a small gesture of kindness,” she said in the statement.
“I didn’t expect it to get so big but I would have done the same for anybody.”
