Star power isn't a question at receiver
STILL WATER— Oklahoma State got a glimpse of its future at the wide receiver position in the Cheez-It Bowl at the end of December.
And not just promising freshman Brennan Presley, who starred in the 37-34 win over Miami. Senior Tay Martin made some important reception sin the second half with NFLbound Tylan Wallace on the sideline.
Of course, the Cowboys are waving goodbye to a lot of experience and leadership that will be hard to replace.
Here's a look ahead at the OSU receiver group of 2021:
Season re wind: Ty l an Wallace, Dillon Stoner and Landon Wolf were the top three pass-catchers for the Cowboys, and all three are gone.
Overall, the Cowboys threw for 2,635 yards in 2020, an average of 239.6 per game, so the ball wasn't flying around as much as it has in some recent seasons.
Still, the receiver group was vital to OSU's success on offense.
Wallace a nd St oner alone combined for 1,495 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air.
Who's out: Dee Anderson, Dillon S toner, Ty l an Wallace, Landon Wolf.
Who's in: Jaden Bray, Fr., Blaine Green, Fr., Bryson Green, Fr ., John Paul Richardson, Fr.
The take: While the incoming group shows promise, it' s the guys already on the roster who will be looked to as next season's playmakers.
Presley, coming off his big show in the Cheez-It Bowl, clearly has star potential , and Martin looks like a reliable outside receiver to keep defenses from cluttering the middle too much. He had a productive career at Washington State before coming to OSU last August. B ray don Johnson returns as well, after a 20-catch, 248-yard season.
Depth becomes a bigger question, because t he experience drop off is sharp behind that trio, with freshmen potentially holding every backup position.
