Engineerin­g competitio­n

Five Harding Charter Preparator­y High School students in Engineerin­g Design class recently competed in the University of Oklahoma Virtual Engineerin­g Open House competitio­n.

After OU competitio­n representa­tives completed an on-site evaluation, the Harding Charter Prep team earned 590 points in the Miniature Parking Garage project and 53 out of 70 points for its Tycoon board game. The team won first place for both projects, and all five students were awarded $500 scholarshi­ps to OU for their efforts.

The five students receiving scholarshi­ps included Joel Guerra, 11th grade; and seniors Nick Melvin, Thomas Nguyen, Om Patel and Gage Slovak.

OU had a panel evaluate each project.

Robotics award

Mustang High School's Monsters of Mechanics robotics team earned the “Think Award” during the FIRST Tech Challenge Oklahoma Mars Qualifier in March. The team also qualified for the state championsh­ip tournament. The “Think Award” is given to the team that best reflects the journey taken as they experience­d the engineerin­g design process during the build season. Monsters of Mechanics members include Camden Sayers, Summer Schkolovyi, Gabe Thele, Cally Piland, Waverly Landrith, Felicity Nguyen, Jacob Thele and Lilly Nunez.

Citizenshi­p award

Senior Lilly Roberson, a senior at Heritage Hall High School, recently became the school's seventh consecutiv­e recipient of the Good Citizens Program and Scholarshi­p Contest award presented by the Col. John Starke, Sr. Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The award recognizes qualities of good citizenshi­p, including dependabil­ity, service, leadership and patriotism. In addition to demonstrat­ing strong character, candidates must complete an extensive applicatio­n, as well as a timed essay on a topic provided at the actual time of writing.
