Mustang’s Simonsen wins Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Cross Country award
Mustang senior Gabe Simonsen has been named the 2020-21 Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.
The announcement was made Thursday.
Simonsen, who also won the award last year, won his third straight Class 6A state title last fall as he finished the 5kilometer race in 15:31.79, which was 17.79 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Simonsen, an Oklahoma State signee, also helped Mustang win the team championship.
Along with his accomplishments in athletics, he has a weighted 4.11 gradepoint average.
Simonsen is now a finalist for Gatorade’s national cross country runner of the year award. The winner will be announced this month.
