Oklahoma Weekly Cattle Auction Summary Livestock Weighted Average Report for the week of April 18 through Thursday.

Receipts: 25,968; Last week: 32,941; Last year: 28,491 Compared to last week: Feeder steer and heifers sold mostly $2-$6 lower, some instance to $8 lower. Steer and heifer calves traded $3-$6 lower. Demand mostly moderate as corn futures made sharp advances, pushing the cost of gains higher. Slaughter cattle trade was not a friend either as light trades sold steady to lower. Slaughter cows and bulls sold unevenly steady on somewhat lighter numbers. Several bulls and high boning bulls were included this week. Supply included: 90% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 44% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 8% Slaughter Cattle (83% Cows, 17% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (5% Stock Cows, 55% Bred Cows, 3% Bred Heifers, 37% Cow-Calf Pairs). SLAUGHTER CATTLE

Live cattle in the southern plains sold mostly steady to $2 lower. Nebraska sold $2-$3 lower and dressed sales $4 lower. Slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday afternoon totaled 66,588 head. Last week's total headcount was 88,624 head.

CATTLE SLAUGHTER

Federally Inspected Cattle: 665,000 head up 41.5 percent from a year ago.

USDA'S Cattle on Feed Report: Please note: This is the first report to reflect the start of the Pandemic. Cattle on feed as of April 1, 2021, totaled 11.9 million head, 105 percent of a year ago. Placements in feed lots during March totaled 2 million head, 128 percent of a year ago. Placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 20 percent, 600-700 lbs. were 16 percent, 700-800 pounds 25 percent, 800-900 pounds 26 percent, and over 900 lbs. were 13 percent of the total placements. Marketing's of fed cattle during the month of March totaled 2.04 million head and were 101 percent of a year ago.

Western Cornbelt Direct Lean Hog Base Price: Weighted average price of packers bids on a carcass basis Friday morning was $110.53.

HOG FUTURES

Federally Inspected Hogs: 2.473 million head up 24.2 percent from a year ago.

SHEEP SLAUGHTER

Federally Inspected Sheep: 37,000 head down 7.5 percent from a year ago.

BOXED BEEF

Estimated Composite Boxed Beef Cutout Values: Friday Box beef cut-out values: up to $5.38 from last Friday. Choice 600-900 lbs. $283.77; Select 600-900 lbs. $272.13.

MEAT PRODUCTION

Beef: 550.2 million lbs. up 44.4 percent from a year ago.

Pork: 536.9 million lbs. up 24.3 percent from a year ago.

Lamb: 2.4 million lbs. down 4.0 percent from a year ago.
