OU's Rattler, Bonitto are preseason All-Americans
Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler and linebacker Nik Bonitto are on the AP preseason All-America football team,
Notre Dame and Iowa State each had three players selected to The Associated Press preseason All-America team, led by Fighting Irish defensive back Kyle Hamilton and Cyclones running back Breece Hall.
The preseason All-America team presented by Regions Bank was released Monday, five days before the first games of the season kick off.
Eight teams have at least two firstteam All-Americans, with seventhranked Iowa State and ninth-ranked Notre Dame leading the way.
Along with Hall, Iowa State is represented on the first team by tight end Charlie Kolar, a former Norman North High School star, and linebacker Mike Rose.
Oklahoma's Spencer Rattler is the first-team quarterback and Sooners teammate Nik Bonitto made the team at linebacker.
WESTERN CAROLINA: John Peacock, the offensive line coach for the Western Carolina football team, died unexpectedly Wednesday, the school announced on social media. Peacock was 32.
According to a Facebook post by his fiancee, Erika Alexander, Peacock died of complications from COVID-19 at their home in Sylva, North Carolina, five days after testing positive.
No. 2-ranked OU plays Western Carolina on Sept. 11 on Owen Field in Norman.
BIG TEN: The Big Ten announced Monday that football teams unable to play a game due to COVID-19 issues will be charged with a forfeit.
The forfeiture policy, which mirrors ones established this summer by other major leagues, including the Big 12 Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference, applies to all sports during the 2021-22 academic year.
