Top storylines

Will Davenport get over the hump? The Bulldogs have advanced to at least the semifinals in six of the past seven seasons but claimed just one state title during that stretch. With lots of returning starters, they’ll try to win their first championship since 2015 and fifth overall.

Dewar looks to defend title: Dewar defeated Laverne 38-20 last year for its first state championship in school history. There are several talented teams in Class B, but Dewar still has a good shot at defending its title.

Players to watch

Casey Harelson, TE/DE, Davenport: The 6-foot-7, 210-pound senior has a lot of athleticism to go along with his size and announced in June he had received offers from Emporia State and Youngstown State.

Jordan Osborn, QB/DB, Wetumka: The senior threw for 1,100 yards and ran for 400 last year. On defense, he had five interceptions.

Parker Smith, WR/DB, CovingtonDouglas: He’s a versatile weapon for Covington-Douglas. Last season, the senior had 1,115 receiving yards and 904 rushing.

Key games

Broken Arrow Summit Christian at Keota, Week 7: These teams are tied for first in the preseason coaches’ poll for District B-6. A victory will likely be key for a district title.

Davenport at Tulsa Regent Prep, Week 10: Both lost in the state quarters last year and are expected to be the main contenders for the District B-8 title. Dewar at Quinton, Week 10: Defending state champion Dewar is the District B-5 favorite, but Quinton is ranked second in the preseason district coaches’ poll and will be at home.
