Ruth Marie (Smith) Lampton
OKLAHOMA CIT Y - Ruth Marie (Smith) Lampton, of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving daughter, Lisa, by her side on August 12, 2021. Ruth was born on February 25, 1935 to Josephine Ruth Wrenn and Thomas Francis Smith of Topeka, Kansas. She attended Hayden Catholic High School, where she was very active in extracurriculars as the co-editor of the schools’ newspaper The Shamrock, and a homeroom representative of the Sodality club until her graduation in 1952.
Ruth attended the University of Oklahoma and obtained a degree in business in 1956. Ruth was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority where she made lifelong friends she cherished dearly. While at OU, Ruth met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Lampton. The college sweethearts were married on April 7, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Their beautiful marriage of 57 years, was blessed with the birth of two daughters Rebecca Elizabeth and Lisa Ruth, who were their whole world and greatest joys.
Ruth was a proud and active parishioner of All Souls’ Episcopal Church for many years and served on the Altar Guild for 15 of those years. Her faith in the Lord kept her grounded and peaceful, always. She was the foundation of her family, and all looked up to her as an example of how to emulate kindness, elegance and grace. She loved her friends and family fiercely and dedicated her life to them.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Lisa Lampton, grandchildren Christy Wilson (Adam), Michael Bayless (Aubrie), Sam Bayless, Will Allen, Anna Allen; and great-grandchildren Jack and Piper Wilson. She was also quite fond of her former sons-in-law, Dr. Douglas Bayless and Charles Allen. She also leaves behind two younger siblings, Stephen Smith and Rebecca Smith. She is forever in our hearts and will be missed tremendously.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 30 at 1 p.m. at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Ave., OKC, OK 73116, with a reception to follow in The Great Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ruth’s Truths: Angel Advocates (https://causability.org/ruth)
