THE OKLAHOMAN’S 2021 CLASS 6A-II FOOTBALL PRESEASON RANKINGS

- — Cameron Jourdan, Staff writer

1. Bixby (11-0): The Spartans are looking for their seventh title in eight seasons this fall, and they have an opportunity to set the state’s all-time 11-man win streak if they win out. With stars Braylin Presley and Luke Has, Bixby has a chance to do all of that.

2. Choctaw (9-4): Last season’s surprise team won’t shock anyone this season. The Yellowjackets are serious title contenders. It starts with junior quarterback Steele Wasel, who has blossomed into one of the state’s best, but Desean Brown is the star of the defense up front.

3. Stillwater (9-1): Another undefeated regular season for the Pioneers last season, but a field goal as time expired ended their year in the semifinals. After graduating more than 30 seniors, Stillwater returns with a younger team but remains talented and capable of a run.

4. Midwest City (8-3): Midwest City is hoping to make some noise before dropping to Class 5A next year. Junior quarterback DeAngelo Irvin Jr. returns for his third season as a starter, and if his progression continues, Midwest City could challenge for a title.

5. Tulsa Booker T. Washington (7-4): After a down season, the Hornets return with plenty of talent, including Gentry Williams, who is back after tearing his ACL. Tulsa Washington’s secondary is deep and can hang with any offense.

6. Putnam North (8-3): Junior quarterback Carson Laverty returns to lead the offense that has to replace three of its four starting receivers. Defensively, Jaleel Johnson will lead the charge from up front.

7. Del City (4-6): Robert Jones, who was the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, takes over as head coach. Del City needs to find a new quarterback, but it is loaded on defense with stars Kanijal Thomas, Jaedon Foreman and David Stone all ready to make big plays.

8. Sand Springs (6-5): In coach Bobby Klinck’s second season, he will look to guide his team even farther in the playoffs and lean on senior quarterback Ty Pennington to be a leader.

9. Deer Creek (4-6): The Antlers could have a breakout season with eight starters returning on both sides of the ball. Jacob Sexton is an anchor on the offensive line and senior quarterback Brett Pense will look to have a big sea

son.

10. Bartlesville (3-8): Offensive lineman Ridge Brewington will lead a stout unit up front that could lead the Bruins to have a lot of offensive success.

11. Muskogee (0-7): Injuries plagued Muskogee last season, but new coach Travis Hill takes over a team with plenty of experience returning, including standout senior running back Isaiah Givens.

12. Lawton (4-5): The Wolverines return plenty of experience at the skill positions, including senior Devin Simpson, as they try to get back into the playoff picture.

13. Ponca City (3-6): Seven starters return on the offensive side of the ball for the Wildcats, which will be balanced and experienced this season.

14. Putnam West (0-8): Standout senior Corey Gordon will look to lead Putnam West to a strong season, though plenty of players will step into new roles.

15. U.S. Grant (2-6): Senior Jeremiah Barkus returns and will play quarterback and receiver while looking to lead the Generals into the playoff picture.

16. Northwest Classen (1-1): COVID wreaked havoc on the Knights’ 2020 season with low participation numbers, limiting them to only two games, but this season is focused on rebuilding. *-Last season’s record in parenthesis
