Oklahoma City homicides
Body found, shooting and stabbing reported in final week of August.
Several homicides that occurred during the final full week of August are being investigated by Oklahoma City police.
“We’ve had so many homicides lately, it can be hard to keep up with all of the details,” said police Capt. Valerie Littlejohn.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to call the Homicide Tip-Line at 405-297-1200.
Body found at park in southeast OKC, but ‘nothing to go on’
Shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday, police located a body outside McCracken Park in southeast Oklahoma City. Sgt. Brad Gilmore of the Oklahoma City Police Department said the body showed signs of homicide.
“This investigation obviously is in
initial stages,” Gilmore said. “There were a couple of people in the area. We’re currently talking with them right now, just to see if they’d seen or heard anything. Otherwise, we have nothing to go on at this time.”
Domestic-related shooting in northwest OKC leads to murder complaint
Around 11 a.m. Thursday, police responded to an emergency call regarding a shooting at 3036 Cashion Place. The victim, 37-year-old Germont Mason, was found dead inside the house.
“When officers arrived, it turns out this was a domestic-related shooting,” said Sgt. Gary Knight. “The female stayed at the scene and she was taken into custody.”
Sarah Jackson, also 37, has been booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a murder complaint.
Fatal stabbing in northwest OKC ‘appeared to be an accident’
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, police were notified of a stabbing at 2722 NW 36 St.
When officers arrived, they discovered the victim, 22-year-old Cameron Smiley, had already been taken to a nearby hospital. Smiley died from his injuries.
Officers investigating the scene learned Smiley had been involved in a disagreement with his mother, 38-yearold Latameryn King.
“There was some sort of disagreement between them, and then at some point during this disagreement, (Smiley) was accidentally stabbed,” Littlejohn said. “It appeared to have been accidental, based on interviews and the evidence at the scene, so she ultimately was not arrested.”
Investigators were still trying to piece together exactly what occurred and why. No arrests have been made in this case, and the district attorney’s office will ultimately decide what charges, if any, are appropriate.
Body found confirmed to be that of missing teenager
Police have confirmed a body found in the 6800 block of NW 13 St. on Aug. 16 is that of 17-year-old Haylie Gonzalez, who had been missing since the Fourth of July.
Family and friends had strongly believed the body to be hers, but police waited for official confirmation from the medical examiner before moving forward with the announcement.
“There’s been situations that have occurred in the past, where you release some information like that, and then it comes back to bite you,” Sgt. Dillon Quirk said. “Thankfully, a conclusion occurred in that we were able to locate Haylie, but the investigation still remains open.”
Police suspected foul play and three people have been booked into the Oklahoma County jail in connection with the teen’s disappearance. She was last seen during a party at the home of Eduardo Bonilla-Lopez, who police arrested on complaints of murder and kidnapping. Lillian Bonilla, Bonilla-Lopez’s sister, and their father, Vidal Bonilla-Jeres, were also taken into custody.
