Events
Tour of the Color Gardens at Will Rogers: 6 p.m. Sept. 8. Wednesday @ Will, Will Rogers Gardens, 3600 NW 36. Free. There will be some walking on grass and uneven ground, so wear sturdy walking shoes. Camp stools or other small chairs may be carried and used if needed. All ages are welcome.
Garden Party in the Park Fundraiser: 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 10, Will Rogers Gardens, 3400 NW 36. Presented by The Friends of Will Rogers Gardens Foundation. In the color gardens next to the conservatory. Bring the family, lawn chairs or blankets. Silent auction, strolling musicians, food trucks, face painting, caricature artist, other kid-friendly activities. Beverages available for purchase. BUG OUT! 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 11, Children’s Garden and Crystal Bridge South Lobby, Myriad Botanical Gardens, 301 W Reno Ave. Cost: $5 members, $7 nonmembers. All ages welcome. Learn about all the benefits bugs can bring to your garden and the world. Create a bug craft, learn to identify beneficial garden bugs and check out the OSU Insect Adventure to see bugs up close. Sponsored by Goldfish Swim School. “Bewitched by Orchids” Show and Sale: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 3, Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Center, 3400 NW 36. Presented by Oklahoma Orchid Society. Vendors and exhibitors from several states will present orchids from around the world. Get expert growing information. Raffles and silent auction. Workshops
Creating a Monarch Waystation: 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 4, Terrace Room, Myriad Botanical Gardens, 301 W Reno Ave. Cost: $16 members, $20 nonmembers. Peggy Turner, Oklahoma County Master Gardener, will teach how to build a waystation, including planning and design, sourcing host and nectar plants, garden maintenance, and certification. Participants will head home with one host plant and one nectar plant. Register by Aug. 31 at myriadgardens.org.
Hosta Care and Selection: 10 a.m. Sept. 11, Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Center, 3400 NW 36. Fran Mummery, a member of the Oklahoma Gardeners Association, will present the free program. Register at the Will Rogers Gardens page at okc.gov.
Fall Lawn Care: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Via Zoom. Josh Campbell, with Oklahoma County Extension, will discuss the basics of turfgrass establishment, fertilization, weed control, and other management practices for fall.
