Redbud Classic canceled due to increasing COVID-19 numbers
The Redbud Classic has been canceled due to rising COVID-19 numbers in the state.
The Oklahoma City running event is normally held in April, but was postponed until Sept. 11-12 because of the pandemic. Now, there will be no Redbud Classic in 2021.
"The Redbud Classic made the very difficult decision to cancel this year's in-person events in support of our medical partners in the community as COVID-19 cases continue to rise," said the Redbud Classic Board of Directors in a prepared statement.
"This decision was not made lightly but we hope to do our part in keeping our community safe and ensuring our hospitals, medical professionals and first responders are not overwhelmed due to COVID-19."
The Oklahoma City Police Athletic League is the beneficiary of the Redbud Classic. The event is scheduled to return in April 2022.
