Struggling Dodgers lose, dip to .500
The Oklahoma City Dodgers continued their late-season swoon Saturday night with a 10-9 Triple-A West baseball loss to Las Vegas at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
OKC, once a season-best seven games over .500 and just one game out of first place, now sit at 49-49 and 7 1/2 games behind division-leading Sugar
Land. The Dodgers have lost five straight games.
Matt Davidson homered twice, including a grand slam, to help give Oklahoma City a 9-4 lead in the seventh inning. But a struggling bullpen failed to hold the lead down the stretch.
METS: New York starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard has tested positive for COVID-19, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Record.
Syndergaard, who is working his way back from 2019 Tommy John surgery, was scheduled to make his second rehab outing with High-A Brooklyn on Sunday, but he was pulled from that start.
Manager Luis Rojas did not disclose any details about Syndergaard's condition, but he said that the Mets pitcher has been vaccinated.
CUBS: The Chicago Cubs placed infielder David Bote on the 10-day injured list Saturday after he sprained his right ankle when he stepped on a ball during batting practice.
Bote got hurt before Friday's 17-13 loss to the White Sox. The ball was obscured by some white lettering in foul territory at Guaranteed Rate Field.
LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES: It was a rematch made in Little League heaven Sunday when Ohio faced Michigan for the 74th Little League World Series title.
In the end, a team of all-stars from Taylor, Mich., could call themselves champions after a 5-2 victory at Lamade Stadium. The teams met in the Great Lakes Regional final in Whitestown, Ind., on Aug. 14 before finding themselves in opposing dugouts during the first final featuring teams from the same regional.
Because of COVID, no international teams participated in the series for the first time since 1975. Instead, 16 teams from the United States – the top two from each regional – made up this year's field, with two divisions consisting of eight teams each.
The series was canceled last year because of the pandemic.
