Energy FC wins at Memphis

-

Villyan Bijev scored his 10th goal of the season Wednesday night, and a shorthanded Oklahoma City Energy FC squad beat Memphis 1-0 in a United Soccer League match.

Bijev’s goal, coming two minutes into the second half, was enough for the Energy to triumph despite being down a man.

Zach Ellis-Hayden was shown a red card for a late challenge in the 24th minute, putting the Energy (7-7-8) on the defensive.

Deklan Wynne picked up the assist on Bijev’s goal, sending a square pass into the penalty area. Bijev lifted the ball over his defender and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Memphis (5-7-7) dominated possession and had several scoring changes, but goalkeeper C.J. Cochran delivered seven saves.

Oklahoma City moved up to fourth place in the Central Division; the top four teams in each division qualify for the playoffs.
