Lawton prisoner found dead in his cell
Cellmate confesses to the killing, officials say
Prison officials said an inmate confessed to killing his cellmate Monday at the Lawton Correctional Facility.
Inmate Aaron Stone, 43, confessed to the killing of cellmate Riley Walker, 29, authorities said.
Staff discovered Walker dead in the early morning hours.
Oklahoma Department of Corrections Inspector General’s investigators are investigating.
Stone is serving time for rape, sodomy, robbery, kidnapping and cruelty to animals out of Comanche County.
Walker was serving time for firstdegree murder out of Pontotoc County.
Prison officials said the homicide appears unrelated to recent incidents at six facilities that caused a statewide lockdown.
On Friday, state corrections officials said there were altercations appeared to be gang-related in which inmates suffered serious but non-fatal injuries.
Also on Monday, Canadian County authorities said members of the Special Operations Team assisted with an altercation involving 15 inmates just after 2 a.m. in the county jail.
Authorities said the violence erupted after a temporary power outage at the jail. Six inmates were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
“Although our investigation into the matter has just began, I believe the incident is most likely gang related,” Canadian County Sheriff Chris West said in a statement.
