CARDINALS 2, Dodgers 1: Tyler O’Neill hit a tiebreakin­g homer, Cardinals relievers combined for five scoreless innings, and St. Louis salvaged a split of its four-game series against the Dodgers. The Cardinals climbed within three games of the San Diego Padres for the final NL wild-card spot.

ATHLETICS 3, White Sox 1: Sean Manaea struck out nine in seven dominant innings, and the Athletics beat the White Sox. Manaea allowed one run and five hits in his first win since July 28. The left-hander went 0-3 with an 8.00 ERA in his previous six starts. Tony Kemp and Matt Chapman each drove in a run for Oakland.

Twins at CLEVELAND, late: Joe Ryan carried a perfect game into the seventh inning of his second big league appearance, helping Minnesota beat Cleveland. Ryan, who was acquired in a July trade with Tampa Bay for slugger Nelson Cruz, retired his first 19 batters.

Mets at MARLINS, late: Bryan De La Cruz had three hits, including a gamewinnin­g single off the center-field fence in the bottom of the 10th inning that gave the Miami Marlins a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday night.

Royals at ORIOLES, late: Kelvin Gutierrez hit a game-tying two-run single, two Kansas City outfielder­s collided on a ball hit by Cedric Mullins, allowing two more runs to score, as the Baltimore Orioles scored all their runs in the eighth inning in a 9-8 win over the Royals on Wednesday night.

Rockies at PHILLIES, late: Eduardo Escobar hit a tiebreakin­g solo homer in the sixth inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers topped the Philadelph­ia Phillies 4-3 on Wednesday night. Milwaukee extended its lead to 12 games in the NL Central over Cincinnati.

Blue Jays at YANKEES, late: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 41st home run and the streaking Toronto Blue Jays knocked the slumping Yankees out of the AL’s top wild-card spot, beating New York 6-3 Wednesday night. The Yankees have lost five straight and nine of 11 since winning 13 in a row.

Nationals at BRAVES, late: Juan Soto crushed a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning and the Washington Nationals relied on their bullpen after Sean Nolin’s first-inning ejection to take a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.
