20 YEARS OF REFLECTION

-

It began as a picture-perfect Tuesday morning under a brilliant and nearly cloudless blue sky. • By 8:46 a.m. it had all changed − forever. h Four hijacked passenger planes would crash that morning, two into the World Trade Center’s twin towers in Lower Manhattan, one into the Pentagon and another into an anonymous field in western Pennsylvania. • When the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil was over, nearly 3,000 people were dead, the twin towers had tumbled to the ground on live television and millions of us would never look at the world the same way again. • As we mark the 20th anniversary of those attacks today, let us remember those who died and offer comfort to their survivors. Let us honor the thousands of others who answered the call under the shadow of the unknown that latesummer day to assist in the rescue and recovery. And lastly let us salute all who shared their willingness to help with acts of compassion and charity in the years that followed.
