Arkansas hammers Texas
Texas hasn't considered Arkansas to be a rival for a long time. Judging by the goal posts coming down Saturday night and with the Longhorns set to join the Southeastern Conference soon, that won't last.
Arkansas (2-0) ran for 333 yards, held Texas to 256 yards of total offense and the Razorbacks beat their former Southwest Conference nemesis 40-21. The ninth-largest crowd in Arkansas history was jubliant all night and many of them stormed the field afterward, celebrating their team's first win over Texas in Fayetteville since 1981.
The Razorbacks led 16-0 at halftime as Texas was dominated from the beginning. The Longhorns (1-1) punted on six of their first seven drives. Their seventh resulted in a missed field goal.
POLLS: Arkansas moved into The Associated Press poll at No. 20 after its rout of Texas, and Oregon and Iowa made significant jumps in both the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and the AP poll.
Oregon vaulted to No. 4 in both polls after a win at Ohio State. Iowa, also impressive in a victory at archrival Iowa State, climbed five places to No. 7 in the coaches poll and No. 5 in the AP ratings.
