‘Batman Day’ to celebrate 82 years of The Dark Knight
DC Comics will join forces with comic stores nationwide to celebrate “Batman Day” on Sept. 18. Several comic-book stores in the metro area will be celebrating as well. Batman, first introduced in 1939, is celebrating 82 years on this year’s “Batman Day” celebration. The first Batman Day was held in 2014 to celebrate 75 years of Batman.
While supplies last, participating comic-book shops will have free “Batman” comics on hand. This year’s free “Batman Day” editions include a sampler edition of “Batman: The World.”
The full “Batman: The World” anthology, is a 184-page hardcover featuring stories from comic creators from across the globe. The sampler edition features the complete lead story, “Global City” by writer Brian Azzarello and artist Lee Bermejo, plus previews of some of the stories from the international teams in the hardcover.
Also for Batman Day, DC will release a special reprint of the crossover release “Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point” #1. The series brought the world of the popular online game to DC Comics for the first time. The hardcover edition of the entire “Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point” storyline also goes on sale this week.
A third “Batman Day” edition is the “Batman: Knightwatch” special featuring Batman and his team creating a network of informants called Knightwatch in order to track down Clayface.
For fans who might enjoy Batman in the audio format, on Batman Day, the original scripted podcast “Batman: The Audio Adventures,” starring Jeffrey Wright, Rosario Dawson, Jason Sudeikis and John Leguizamo will be released on HBO Max. All 10 episodes will be released on Sept. 18. “Batman: The Audio Adventures” will be further explored in an 80page prestige format one-shot comic, which will be released in October.
