Fall office fashion is back to business
QUESTION: What should I wear for the back-to-the-office transition? I didn’t buy many clothes when I was staying home, but now feel like my office outfits, my dresses and suits are outdated. Are there new styles that I should be looking at?
CALLIE’S ANSWER: The pandemic has made a lot of offices more casual. That being said, new clothes are always fun! Best advice, wear what makes you feel good.
LILLIE-BETH’S ANSWER: I think we’re all in this same situation, and it’s going to take a minute for our wardrobes to catch up with our work.
Even though things are still somewhat casual, I have noticed that workplaces where everyone has returned to the office are also returning to pre-pandemic, more dressy dress code levels.
Don’t worry about being the most in style with the latest in fashion right now: Continue to look professional, and update your clothes a little at a time. Go to local boutiques and ask for help updating your style.
Also look at event photos on social media for ideas.
HELEN’S ANSWER: A crisp look for men and women should be the order of the day. Matching jacket and slacks/skirts with a fabulous shirt is always is order. Sloppy clothes should stay at home. Florals are good now with the women, either in dresses or blouses. Everyone is happy to be back in the office. Wear happy clothes!
GUEST’S ANSWER: Linda Miller, fashion expert and editor of Fashion Matters Blog: Try adding a few new colorful pieces to your wardrobe. Color really stands out this fall. Wear saturated color head to toe for a modern take or mix unexpected hues such as fuchsia with brown or green.
Knits are another strong look going into cooler weather. Consider a knit dress or skirt. A cable knit sweater with tailored pants is casual but polished.
Layer a loose jacket over a collared shirt. Belt the jacket for a fresh look or add a vest. Bottom line: Choose clothes that are comfortable and make you feel good.
