Netflix announced Thursday that a second season of “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” will be coming to the streaming platform this year.

The first season of the docuseries told the story of Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, otherwise known as Joe Exotic, and his animal park in Wynnewood.

In early 2020, Maldonado-Passage was sentenced to prison for twice attempting to hire a hitman to kill Carole Baskin, the owner of an animal rescue in Florida who was heavily critical of his zoo. A teaser image of the second season of show by Netflix appears to show Maldonado-Passage on the phone at a jail or prison.

Here’s what we know about the upcoming program:

Is there a ‘ Tiger King 2’ release date?

Netflix has not announced a release date for the second season of the program.

The first season of “Tiger King” began streaming on Netflix on March 20, 2020, around the same time the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread in the U.S. and many residents began quarantining inside.

Will Carole Baskin be in ‘ Tiger King 2’?

In an interview with British magazine Radio Times in February, Baskin said directors reached out to her. She said she had been misled and betrayed by the show’s creators.

“I have been speaking about how we had been so misled into thinking this (“Tiger King”) was going to be the ‘Blackfish’ for big cats and then it turned out to be the freak show that

they produced.”

She said several items were taken out of context.

“You know the biggest lie that people were sold in ‘Tiger King’ was that there was a feud because I’ve never actually spoken to Joe,” Baskin said.

In a trailer highlighting future “true crime” genre shows coming to Netflix, Baskin can been seen for a moment walking. Whether we actually see more of her, let alone hear from her after she took over then sold the Wynnewood zoo, remains to be seen. Who is the ‘Tiger King’ cast? Netflix has not yet announced any casting details for Season 2. Season 1 primarily focused on Maldonado-Passage and Baskin, but many other subjects can be expected to return for appearances.

Season 1’s cast included, among many others:

● Howard Gene Baskin, the third husband of Carole Baskin

● Jeff and Lauren Lowe, the second owners of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park

● Mahamayavi Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, director of The Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species

● Rick Kirkham, documentary filmmaker

● Kelci Saffery, G.W. zookeeper

● John Reinke, G.W. zoo manager

● Dillon Passage, Maldonado-Pash sage’s latest husband

● Erik Cowie, G.W. zoo employee

Is Tiger King, aka Joe Exotic, in prison?

Maldonado-Passage has been imprisoned at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, since March 2020.

In July 2021, a federal appeals court ruled he must be resentenced because of a mistake by his trial judge. However, his conviction was upheld.

Joe Exotic tweets about ‘ Tiger King 2’

On his Twitter account, Maldonado-Passage has recently made accusations about federal officials lying in order to stack charges against him and shared links to podcasts on which he’s appeared.

He’s also promoted materials for purchase on his website like cosmetic products and a cryptocurrency called TKingCoin.

Last week, Exotic said his attorney is seeking a presidential pardon. In a tweet, he wrote “federal agents need to be charged with kidnapping me.”

A day earlier, he tweeted that the upcoming season of “‘Tiger King 2’ will floor you.”
