The senior wide receiver tied a career high with 10 receptions and career marks with yards (133) and touchdowns (two) as Iowa State rolled to a 48-3 victory over UNLV Saturday.
He leads the Big 12 in receptions and is third in yards after three games and is feeding off his strong finish to last season. Hutchinson has 42 receptions over his last six games extending into 2020.
“Xavier is the bell cow in terms of the wide receiver position for us,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell told the Des Moines Register in August. “He is exactly where he needs to be when this team needs him the most.”
Hutchinson and the Cyclones open Big 12 play at Baylor on Saturday. Last season against the Bears, Hutchinson was held to two catches for 23 yards.
