Church to celebrate anniversary

Olivet Baptist Church will celebrate its 111th anniversary with a series of special activities.

The church will host a “Century of Praise, Our Voices We Raise” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 1201 NW 10. The event will be an old-fashioned hymn sing. “We’ll be sharing memories and focusing on the ministries to our community,” said Becky Wood, one of the anniversary celebration organizers. “Olivet has chosen to stay in their community and are preparing to enter a new chapter of ministry to those ‘in the shadow of the church.’”

Wood said the church will dedicate a new carillon at 4 p.m. and a legislative citation will be read. A concert by a new group called Symphonix will also take place.

Wood said the 20-piece string chamber orchestra is conducted by Karén Khanagov from Oklahoma City University. She said a time of fellowship and refreshments will be at 5:30 p.m.
