Scouting Kansas State
❚ Record: 3-1
❚ Best player: With quarterback Skylar Thompson still recovering from a knee injury, running back Deuce Vaughn has been a focal point of the offense. The sophomore back is averaging 123.8 total yards and per game 1.5 touchdowns per game for the Wildcats. Thompson was seen taking reps before Saturday's game against Oklahoma State, but Kansas State will surely lean on Vaughn if the star quarterback can't suit up against OU.
❚ The case for Kansas State: Ignore the first-half defensive performance against Oklahoma State. Kansas State entered the game allowing an averaging of just 15.7 points per contest, and it kept the Cowboys off the board in the second half after surrendering 31 points in the first two quarters. If the Wildcats can build off that defensive momentum and re-establish the run game, they'll have a chance to upset a beatable Sooners squad on Saturday.
❚ The case for Oklahoma: OU keeps finding a way to win ugly games. The Sooners are 3-0 in games decided by one possession this season, and a ton of the credit has to go to their defense. Life will be much easier if the offense can find its rhythm on Saturday, but OU will still be tough to beat if its defense continues to be dominant.
