Edmond residents offered free trees
EDMOND — More than 200 free trees are being offered to Edmond homeowners.
Edmond Electric and Edmond Urban Forestry has teamed with The Arbor Day Foundation to provide the EnergySaving Trees Program.
The program offers free trees, along with an easy-to-use online mapping tool to take the guesswork out of tree planting.
“Edmond Electric recognizes the importance of trees for health and quality of life, and they can also help lower energy costs,” community program manager Jessica Lyle said. “Planting the right tree in the right place will not only lower energy costs but will provide comfort for families for years to come.”
There will be 234, 5-gallon trees available to Edmond residents. Residents can reserve a free tree by going to https://arborday.org/edmondelectric.
Trees will be available for pickup from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Bickham — Rudkin Park, 33rd and Rankin.
For the pickup event, residents will stay in their vehicles and staff will load their tree. Residents picking up a tree are encouraged to bring a large trash bag to protect their cars from soil. Since the trees will be 5-gallon trees, a small
SUV or truck is recommended for pickup.
Residents not able to pick up their tree may send someone on their behalf. The person picking up the tree will need to have the name the tree was reserved under and the confirmation email/ number.
Available species are Emerald Green Arborvitae, Royal Purple Smoke Tree, Greenspire Linden, Autumn Blaze Maple, Thundercloud Purple Leaf Plum and Tuliptree. The limit is one tree per address/household.
