- The Oklahoman USA TODAY NETWORK

NORMAN — Norman’s residential fall cleanup will begin Oct. 2 as the city begins offering more options for getting rid of unneeded items.

The following are the dates for the cleanup event, depending on residential customers’ polycart service:

Saturday — Monday polycart service.

Oct. 9 — Tuesday polycart service.

Oct. 16 — Wednesday polycart service.

Oct. 23 — Thursday polycart service.

Oct. 30 — Friday polycart service. Household items (for example: couch, chair, mattresses) must be at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the designated Saturday. The schedule also applies to rural customers.

Items should not be placed at the curb earlier than one week before scheduled collection day. If items are placed out more than one week before designated pick-up date, the city of Norman could fine a resident for a code violation.

Yard waste is not collected as a fall cleanup item. Yard waste that meets size requirements can be taken to the Compost Facility. Larger limbs and trunks can be taken to the Transfer Station.

Other items that will not be collected include: Remodeling or demolition debris such as broken concrete, bricks, lumber, Sheetrock or shingles; junk cars; or any hazardous waste such as chemicals, tires, batteries, paints, refrigerators or items with Freon, etc. Any items containing Freon must have the Freon properly captured by a certified technician. Only with the proper tag identifying that the Freon has been removed, will the items be accepted.

Polycarts, wagons, wheelbarrows, etc., are not to be used as containers for cleanup items.

The Transfer Station at 3901 S Chautauqua also will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free on the planned cleanup Saturdays for any Norman sanitation customer. A current city of Norman utility bill is required.

Remodel, demolition or construction debris is not considered part of the fall cleanup and will be accepted at the Transfer Station at the standard gate rate, a news release stated.

For rural residents, containers also will be set up to dispose of items on Oct. 9 at the following locations: • American Legion, 156th NE and State Highway 9. • Alameda Market, 7500 Alameda St.

These locations are for Norman residents with city of Norman trash service. Residents will need to show proof of residency with a copy of their city of Norman trash bill.
