- Chris Casteel

Oklahoma City attorney Jason Bollinger, a Democrat and political newcomer, has announced his plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Sen. James Lankford.

Bollinger, 29, received accounting and law degrees at the University of Oklahoma. He worked for the U.S. State Department in Washington in 2017 and 2018 before beginning his law practice in Oklahoma City.

“We need a fresh generation of leaders who will be focused on fixing our country and the needs of our working families and people,” Bollinger said in a news release. “I will be that kind of leader,”

Three Republicans have announced they will challenge Lankford, who has been in the Senate since 2014. Filing for the 2022 elections is scheduled for April.

Bollinger said he grew up in Carter, a town in Beckham County, and graduated from high school in Elk City.
