CARDINALS 4, Brewers 3: Rookie Dylan Carlson homered twice, once from each side of the plate, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Thursday. Carlson’s homers made a winner out of J.A. Happ.

RANGERS 7, Angels 6: Adolis Garcia set a Rangers rookie record for home runs and RBIs and Brock Holt put Texas ahead for the first time with a two-run double in the eighth inning. The Angels’ Shohei Ohtani got his 99th RBI.

Cubs at PIRATES, late: Willson Contreras drove in all of the Cubs’ run as Chicago beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 on Wednesday night to end a sevengame losing streak. Contreras’ two-run double in the seventh inning rallied the Cubs from a 2-1 deficit.

Red Sox at ORIOLES, late: J.D. Martinez homered and drove in three runs to back a dominant pitching performanc­e by Nathan Eovaldi, and the Boston Red Sox broke a four-game skid and bolstered their playoff hopes by beating the Orioles 6-0 Wednesday.

Yankees at BLUE JAYS, late: Bo Bichette homered twice, tiebreakin­g home run off Clay Holmes in the eighth inning that lifted the Toronto Blue Jays over the Yankees 6-5 Wednesday night, tightened the AL wild card race.

Rays at ASTROS, late: Drew Rasmussen and three relievers combined for a three-hitter, Brandon Lowe and Ji-Man Choi both homered and the Tampa Bay Rays coasted past the Houston Astros 7-0 Wednesday, giving them the No. 1 seed in the American League playoffs.

Marlins at METS, late: Miguel Rojas’ two-run single capped a three-run rally in the eighth inning Wednesday, spoiling Taijuan Walker’s longest start in more than four years and sending the Marlins to a 3-2 victory over the Mets.

Phillies at BRAVES, late: Max Fried pitched seven strong innings, Austin Riley drove in three runs, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelph­ia Phillies 7-2 on Wednesday night to move within one victory of a fourth straight NL East title.

Tigers at TWINS, late: Jorge Polanco launched a three-run homer and Michael Pineda was solid in his last start of the year as the Twins beat the Tigers 5-2 on Wednesday night.

Cleveland at ROYALS, late: Salvador Perez tied a Royals record with his 48th homer of the season before leaving with a sprained right ankle, and Kansas City went on to beat Cleveland 10-5 on Wednesday night.

Diamondbac­ks at GIANTS, late: Alex Wood and three relievers combined for a four-hitter for San Francisco, Kris Bryant hit a sacrifice fly and the Giants reached 104 wins by beating the woeful Diamondbac­ks 1-0 Wednesday.

Padres at DODGERS, late: Corey Seager hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning, when the Dodgers went deep four times to rally past the Padres 11-9 on Wednesday night.
