Jeanette Posey


Jeanette Posey passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021, in Oklahoma City at the age of 90. She was born on January 21, 1931, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Thomas Jackson ( Jack) Posey and Jewel Lois Brown Posey, the oldest of their three daughters.

The family moved to Oklahoma City where Jeanette attended Lee Elementary and Capital Hill Junior High before moving back to Shawnee. She graduated from Shawnee High School with the class of 1949. After graduation she went to work for Southweste­rn Bell/AT&T in Shawnee and transferre­d to Oklahoma City in 1962. Jeanette made many lifelong friends while she was working as a telephone operator and she retired from AT&T in 1986.

Jeanette was a long-time member of Crown Heights United Methodist Church where for many years she took part in the Mobile Meals program and the Bible study group. She was also active in the Telephone Pioneers. Jeanette enjoyed being with family and friends and loved to read, travel, write short stories, draw, play cards and work jigsaw puzzles.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Jewel Posey and sister Sharon Posey Smith. She is survived by her sister Judy Posey Bowers and her husband Ron Bowers; brother-in-law Albert Smith; her nieces and nephews Keith Smith, David Smith and wife Melanie, Craig Bowers, Katie Smith Dryden, Renee Bowers, Ryan Smith, and Jayme Bowers Nickell; first cousin June Littlefiel­d, caregiver and friend Yolanda Jones and other relatives and friends.

A public memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8 at 2:00 pm at Crown Heights United Methodist Church, 1021 NW 37, Oklahoma City.
