Latest Oklahoman charged in riot admits to poor judgment
He admitted in the statement to poor judgment in doing so.
“I did not vandalize anything,” he also wrote. “I had no intent of causing harm ... to anyone or anything.”
Spain is the seventh Oklahoman charged so far in the ongoing investigation into the breach of the U.S. Capitol.
The breach came after then-President Donald Trump told supporters “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
During the breach, a U.S. Capitol police officer fired a single shot at Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt as she tried to enter the barricaded doors to the lobby of the House Chamber. Babbitt later died.
The FBI reported getting multiple online tips about Spain in January. He was spotted in recordings of the crowd inside the Capitol wearing the same shirt and U.S. Army hat that he had on in a Facebook photo, according to the affidavit.
Spain confirmed he had taken that picture of himself on Jan. 1 in front of the Capitol, the FBI reported.
