Federal judge’s husband picked for district court
They met their first year in law school and were married by their third.
Soon, both can be called “your honor.”
Brent Dishman, 43, was appointed Monday to serve as a district judge in Oklahoma County. He plans to start Nov. 1.
His wife, Jodi Dishman, already is a federal judge for the western district of Oklahoma, which is based in Oklahoma City. They both graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2005.
“I don’t think it will be weird,” Brent Dishman told The Oklahoman. “We’ve always been lawyers at the same time and we both like serving. So, I think it will be good.”
Gov. Kevin Stitt chose Brent Dishman to fill the vacancy created by a resignation.
District Judge Tim Henderson left office April 5 after being accused of sexual misconduct. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been looking into the accusations. No final decision has been made yet on whether Henderson will face charges. Henderson denies wrongdoing. In announcing the appointment Monday, the governor pointed to Brent Dishman’s track record of public
service, particularly his time in the Air Force.
“I thank God for this opportunity to serve and I am grateful to Governor Stitt for placing his trust in me, as well as to my family for their support,” Brent Dishman said.
“As a judge, I will uphold the rule of law and seek to reflect the Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”
Brent Dishman is a 2000 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and has served on active duty or as a reservist since that time.
He was an assistant dean for student affairs at the University of Oklahoma College of Law from 2017 until earlier this year.
Jodi Dishman became a federal judge after then-President Donald Trump nominated her in 2019. She filled the vacancy created when U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange took senior status.
