OSU rodeo coach dies in traffic accident

-

For the second straight year, Oklahoma State University rodeo has lost a team member in a tragic accident.

Assistant coach Lariat Larner, 24, was killed in a traffic accident Wednesday night in south Stillwater.

Larner, originally from Stephenville, Texas, was a passenger in a pickup truck that collided with another pickup truck. “The OSU Rodeo Team and I are devastated by the loss of Lariat Larner, our assistant coach, fellow team member and friend,” said Cody Hollingsworth, OSU’s rodeo head coach, in a statement posted on social media.

“Lariat was an excellent competitor, but first and foremost a cherished member of our rodeo family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Larner family and everyone who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.”

Last year in September, OSU rodeo team member Rowdy Swanson died from injuries sustained in a bull riding event in Texas. Swanson, a 2018 graduate of Empire High School, was 20 years old.
