Scouting Kansas

❚ Record: 1-5, 0-3 Big 12

❚ Best player: Kyron Johnson earned an All-Big 12 honorable mention last season, and he's playing well once again in 2021. The senior defensive end is leading the Jayhawks in tackles for loss (4.5), sacks (2.5), quarterback hurries (three) and forced fumbles (two) this season. Kansas' defense is allowing an average of 43.3 points per contest, which is the highest in the conference, but Johnson is a rare bright spot.

❚ The case for Kansas: There isn't much of one. In addition to surrendering the most points per game in the Big 12, Kansas is also scoring a conference-worst average of just 16.7 points per contest. The Jayhawks' best chance of making this one competitive is if their offensive line can buy quarterback Jason Bean enough time to get the passing game going, but the odds are stacked against them. Kansas last beat OU in 1997, and it doesn't look like its 16-game series losing streak will come to the end on Saturday.

❚ The case for Oklahoma: OU's talent alone should be enough to emerge victorious on Saturday. The Sooners' offense should be able to move the ball with ease and connect on some downfield passes, which were rare prior to Caleb Williams being the starting quarterback. Meanwhile, OU's defensive line should win the war in the trenches and make life difficult for Bean and company.
