Environmental awards seek nominations
OKC Beautiful will host its 37th annual Distinguished Service Awards Luncheon on March 24 and is seeking nominations for this year’s recipients.
The awards recognize businesses, organizations and individuals that have helped improve the beauty and environmental health of Oklahoma City. Nominations can include volunteers, neighborhood groups, businesses, service organizations and more. Areas of service could include beautification, conservation, neighborhood improvements, public or private landscaping, litter control or environmental education.
Nominations can be submitted at okcbeautiful.com/service-award-nomination by Nov. 1.
Museum’s ‘OktoberWest’ to feature German music, food
Guests are invited to don their cowboy boots and lederhosen for the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s first “OktoberWest” celebration, featuring music, dancing, food and beer from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 29. Performances will be held outside with seating indoors. Live entertainment includes traditional German music and singing. Admission is $25 and includes access to the museum, concert and games. A variety of local beer and traditional German food will be available for purchase. Grant makes afterschool care possible for 30 children
A grant between Rainbow Fleet and the Chickasaw Nation will make afterschool care possible for 30 local students at no cost. Funding in the amount of $83,460 will help fill the childcare gap for working families.
Rainbow Fleet Early Education Center has served the community in partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools since 2019 with its afterschool program. As part of a recent urban renewal project, the early childhood nonprofit houses operations in the former Horace Mann Elementary School.
