Scouting Texas Tech
Record: 5-3 (2-3 Big 12)
Best player: Junior wide receiver Erik Ezukanma is the top threat in Texas Tech’s passing game. The 6-foot-3 wideout is averaging 72.5 receiving yards per game (508 total yards), and he’s poised for another strong showing against an OU secondary that’s thin due to injuries. The Sooners struggled to stop Texas’ Xavier Worthy and TCU’s Quentin Johnston, and they’ll have their hands full once again on Saturday.
The case for Texas Tech: OU’s defense is allowing a conference-high average of 273.4 passing yards per contest, and that plays right into Texas Tech’s biggest strength. The Red Raiders are averaging 269.5 passing yards per game, which ranks second in the Big 12, and they’ll have a chance to make things interesting on Saturday if they can air the football out with success.
The case for Oklahoma: Texas Tech doesn’t have the most formidable defense. The team ranks eighth in the conference in both points allowed per game (30.6) and total sacks (13). If Saturday’s contest turns into a shootout, OU’s offense should also be wellequipped to outgun the Red Raiders.
